What to Expect from Your Timing Belt

You've probably heard of a timing belt, but do you know what it looks like, what it does, and why it's important. Like many parts of cars, the name fairly accurately describes the part. The timing belt is responsible for ensuring that the camshaft and the crankshaft are turning at synchronous speeds.

The timing belt is made with a piece of toothed rubber. These teeth ensure that the crankshaft is opening and closing the pistons and the camshaft is opening and closing the valves synchronously. If they weren't working together at the correct timing, the engine wouldn't work properly. If your timing belt is broken, you could even incur engine damage.

If you're interested in learning more about your timing belt, or if you think that your timing belt might need to be replaced, come over and meet with us at Grand Blanc Motorcars, LTD. We're conveniently located at 9099 Holly Road, and we'd be happy to look at your vehicle and give you our opinion.
